Electricity Suppliers UK

Have you ever looked at your electricity bills and wished there was a way you could take control of spiraling price rises? Our online service buts you back in the driving seat by helping you to find the cheapest electricity suppliers in your region.

In the UK, there are over two dozen different organisations that supply electricity. Some of them operate as independent energy providers while others form part of a large group, such as EDF Energy. Supplying electricity is no longer the sole preserve of dedicated energy companies; many different organisations now offer electricity alongside their existing services. Examples include Lloyds TSB, which now supplies electricity and gas (not to mention telephone services); and household supermarket brand Sainsburys, which now provides energy through its Sainsburys Energy service. Smaller regional energy companies include Countrywide Energy, which is part of Countrywide Farmers Plc -- a group of companies that provide goods for farming and rural industries. Countrywide Energy supplies both rural and urban customers in central and southern England and Wales

The array of possible energy suppliers for UK energy customers can be bewildering. Our service can help cut through the tangle of different companies and products to find you the greatest deals on electricity.

When most people think of UK electricity suppliers, they often picture large, well-known organisations, often made up of several smaller companies. One of the UK's largest private network operators is EDF Energy; this group includes SWEB Energy, London Energy and Seeboard Energy. It has in excess of five million customers, both households and business subscribers. EDF Energy produces about five gigawatts of electricity. Other big name energy providers include British Gas (operating in Scotland as Scottish Gas and as Nwy Prydain in Wales). Npower, a German-owned group, includes a handful of smaller companies. E.ON (formerly Powergen) generates and retails energy to customers in the UK and worldwide; as well as conventional power plants it boasts windfarms in various locations up and down the UK.

As well as the more familiar household names, there are smaller independent operators that can offer innovative electricity supply solutions. A relative newcomer to the energy market, Utilita leads the UK as a provider of pay-as-you-go electricity and gas. (A pay-as-you-go meter can be a useful option for households that have trouble handling conventional electricity bills.) UK's only not-for-profit supplier is the independent Ebico. Ebico supplies gas as well as electricity; it operates a carbon trading service called Equiclimate which helps domestic and commercial customers to shrink their CO2 footprint by trading carbon credits on the European market. Ebico offers special low rates available for prepayment customers via its EquiPower energy tariff.

If you're looking for ways in which to lower your company's overall CO2 emissions, the major players in the UK energy market offer some eco-friendly options. Examples include Npower's "Juice" tariff, under which Npower agrees to ensure that every unit of electricity used is offset by a similar amount of electricity generated from sustainable sources, which is put back into the grid. Alternatively you could sign up with a green electricity supplier like Ecotricity or Good Energy, both of which generate electricity solely from renewable resources such as hydroelectric plants and wind farms.

The list of UK energy providers is a long one. Thanks to our easy-to-use online form, finding the supplier that's right for you doesn't have to be a chore. Simply enter your postcode and some basic information -- who your current supplier is and how much electricity you use -- into our webform and let our system automatically scour the list of UK electricity suppliers to get you the best quotes for your region.

Our data comes directly from the suppliers themselves. That way it's always accurate and up to date. We compare all the UK electricity suppliers so that you can be certain you are getting the very best possible quote. As well as being simple to use, our service is also completely free.
